Butler Creek's Shotgun Plug is designed to limit the magazine capacity of most 12, 16 and 20 Gauge shotguns, using tubular magazines, to two shells. This plug can be shortened to accommodate shorter magazine tubes or 3" shells.
To install the magazine plug:
-First, place the firearms safety to the "on" position, then, be sure that the firearm is completely unloaded.
-Remove the magazine end-cap (remove barrel for easier access to the magazine tube). Some firearms will need to have their forend removed, as opposed to an end-cap, to access the magazine tube.
-Eye protection should be worn from here on. Carefully remove the clip, stopper or retainer spring holding the captured magazine spring inside the tube. The magazine spring will be under pressure and will fly out if you're not careful. Consult your owners manual to see how this process is done on your particular firearm.
-Once the clip, stopper or retainer spring is removed and the magazine spring is free, simply insert the plug into the end of the spring nearest the muzzle. Pushing the spring with plug down into the tube, re-install the clip, stopper or retainer spring once again, being sure it is securely locked into place.
-At this point, the barrel, if removed, can be secured to the receiver/magazine tube again and the end-cap or forend re-attached.
To ensure the magazine plug is the proper length and only the lawful amount of rounds can be loaded into the magazine, test capacity with dummy rounds (not live ammo), such as Lyman Snap Caps, found here: https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/623535/files/33391468/snap-caps-dummy-rounds.html
